Translated and edited by W. Neilson.

The true story of Jean-Baptist Girard, the fifty-year-old Jesuit priest, and Catherine Cadiere,

his eighteen-year-old penitent, as told by her Counsel in the case.

First full length account in over 250 years.

Seducing Her Sins Away sticks closely to the facts which the author has culled from the original case papers. As Counsel for Catherine Cadiere asserts in his Foreword, every tit-bit is solidly supported by the evidence.

While this novel is set in eighteenth century pre-revolutionary France, the reader of the twenty-first century will recognise all the elements of more recent cases where those in authority --- priests, nuns, teachers, carers --- have seduced and abused those in their charge; who, when justly accused, are not only indignant in their denials, but turn the case against their victims, alleging, sometimes justifiably, plots and perjury.

As the French would say: Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

"The Celebrated Case of Father Girard and Catherine Cadiere:This case, in addition to being one of the most famous in the annals of flagellation, affords at the same time an admirable exposé of that wonderfully lax morality and persevering cunning which was at one time held to be characteristic of the Jesuit order.” --- Cooper: “Flagellation & the flagellants: a history of the rod” --- published 1870.
Specification: 128 pages, size A5, 55,000 words, perfect bound paperback, with six illustrations reproducing engravings by contemporary artists.
