Some of the Dumbiedykes group members
Dumbiedykes is an inner city council housing highrise and lowrise development in Edinburgh, situated yards from the new Scottish Parliament building. A group of residents contributed to the Salt of the Earth Project in summer 1999. They recorded memories of old Dumbiedykes before the building of the present houses, and reflected on current circumstances. There is intense feeling within the community at present concerning the issue of proposed council house stock transfer, and the perceived threat to Dumbiedykes from this and surrounding building development. These issues have been addressed through audio and video recordings. The group are currently working with the People's Story Museum in Edinburgh to include the material in an interactive CD-ROM production.
