West coast harbour, Benbecula
A Salt of the Earth group was formed here after a well-attended public launch and taster event in January 1999. The group tutor is working from and in conjunction with the Community School in Lionacleit, but he is also travelling to other areas. Contributions in both Gaelic and English have been encouraged.
Following initial recording sessions in Benbecula and the Uists (North Uist pictured above right, South Uist pictured left), the participants have decided to focus their attention on the former communities of the eastern coastline. Recording is scheduled to begin again in late autumn and plans are being formalised to fund a CD-ROM representation of their work.
