Thornliebank School

Thornliebank Primary School was first built on its present site on Main Street around 1877, but that building burned down in 1895.

ANNIE: "I heard my father talking about [the fire]... [the students] thought it was great, they'd all get a holiday. But they were all taken up to the public hall, and lessons were resumed!"

The current building was opened 2 years later; it is now a listed building. Most of the group members who grew up in the Thornliebank area attended the school.
