1. Arrive MARIBOR
Explore this second largest city of Slovenia: in the lovely old
centre visit the imposing castle and the cathedral. There is a
summer festival on the banks of Drava River. Overnight in a three
star hotel.
Day
2. MARIBOR - PTUJ 20ml(32km)
An easy ride toady across flat Ptuj plain along the bank of Drava.
The town of Ptuj, the oldest in Slovenian, has Roman ruins, temples
and a medieval castle with a wonderful collection of old musical
instruments and history of Turkish raids. Overnight in a 3-star,
thermal spa hotel. Ptuj wine cellar has its own shop and tasting
room. Try the Traminec white wine.
Day
3. PTUJ - JERUZALEM 23ml((37 km)
Cycle first across flat plains but later the last 8 km are hilly
with one sharp climb of 100 m / 330 ft. On the way visit Dornava
and Nedela baroque castles and the Ormoz wine cellar - known for
its white wines. Ormoz is on the border with Croatia: perhaps
visit the neighbouring country by simply crossing Drava Bridge.
On the hilltop of Jeruzalem stands a marvelous baroque church
dating from the 16th century: it holds the portrait of the Mourning
Virgin, brought from the Holy Land. Overnight in a nice 2-star
country inn, with lovely views over the vineyards. Price includes
wine tasting in the house cellar!
Day
4. JERUZALEM - MORAVSKE TOPLICE 28ml(45 km)
Some
hilly sections in the morning but later it is flat. Cycle through
the traditional Slovenian vineyard area - beautiful countryside
and scenery. Dotted along the way are little wine cellars and
restaurants. Visit the floating mill of Bogojina, the pottery
workshop in Filovci and the modern church in Bogojina.Overnight
in 3* hotel - part of Terme 3000 spa complex in Moravske Toplice.
Day 5. Rest day MORAVSKE TOPLICE
Spend
the day resting in the spa or take an easy 30km round trip towards
Hungarian border and visit Bukovnica Lake. Enjoy a cup of coffee
with tasty pastry in Lendava or cycle a couple of kilometres through
Hungary.

Day
6. MORAVSKE TOPLICE - LENART 32ml(51 km).
A short distance from Moravske Toplice is Murska Subota with its
fine 16th century castle which houses the regional museum. From
there the cycling is first flat and then across gently rolling
countryside. Overnight in a two star country inn. The price includes
wine tasting in the house cellar!
Day
7. LENART - MARIBOR 26ml(42 km).
The last day's cycling takes you through typical northern Slovenian
rural villages and farms. First it is hilly among the terraced
vineyards but later the countryside becomes flat as you approach
Maribor.
