SHORT
BREAKS
Scotland
is an ideal destination for a short break of any length, somewhere
you can unwind and relax, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday
life. At any of our carefully selected destinations you can enjoy
breathtaking scenery together with a host of interesting things
to do and places to visit. Whether it is a challenging trip through
forests or hills or a leisurely ride by lochs or seashore you will
return refreshed by the clear fresh air and the invigorating exercise.
Why not use a short break to treat yourself to an extra holiday
outwith the main busy months of July and August or include a short
cycling break in your main Scottish holiday. Our short breaks include
bed and breakfast in private houses and guest houses, cycle hire
and maps and routes. If you feel like treating yourself to a little
luxury we will be pleased to upgrade your accommodation to a four
star guest house or hotel and also include evening dinner. Please
take a look at the selection of destinations listed below and let
us know your choice.
INVERNESS
The bustling riverside burgh of Inverness, often called the
“Capital of the Highlands”, sits on the shore of the Moray Firth.
It has a wide variety of accommodation, restaurants to suit every
taste and excellent shopping facilities. Your cycling trips can
take you to the historic battlefield of Culloden, Cawdor Castle
with its beautiful gardens and Fort George, the massive barracks
built after the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Travelling southwards
on quiet minor roads there are spectacular views over Loch Ness,
whilst a boat trip from Inverness Harbour provides an opportunity
to see the famed school of
bottlenose dolphins which roll and leap in the Moray Firth.
PITLOCHRY
This bustling Victorian resort town is centrally placed for
exploring the scenic beauty of the Perthshire Highlands. Loch Tummel,
Rannoch, Blair Castle, Killiekrankie are just some of the beautiful
places within easy reach. Around the town
there are two distilleries, the Dam and Fish Ladder, the
Festival Theatre and numerous shops to visit. There is a wide choice
of short or long circular cycle routes to satisfy all grades of
ability.
ST
ANDREWS
Well known as the “Home of Golf”, St Andrews also offers the
visitor a host of other interesting things to see and do. The town
itself enjoys a wonderful seaside setting in St Andrews Bay, with
two excellent beaches and a small harbour. The sense of history
is all around and is illustrated by the fine buildings of the ancient
university and the ruins of the Castle and massive Cathedral built
in the 13th century. For cyclists there are signposted routes exploring
the coastal scenery and pretty harbours of the “East Neuk” or travelling
inland there are the Fife Folk Museum at Ceres and the Royal Palace
of Falkland. At nearby Tentsmuir Forest with its picnic area and
wide sandy beach, there are quiet, level forest tracks, ideally
suited to family cycling.
