Day
1. Arrive VIENNA
Arrive
Vienna: evening route briefing and bike provision. Dinner and
overnight in a hotel in Vienna.
Day
2. VIENNA - BRUCK a.d. LEITHA 32ml(51km)
After breakfast begin your adventure. Pedal through the Prater
Gardens to Bruck an der Leitha which lies romantically between
vineyards and forests. It has a pretty old walled town with circular
walls, four city gates and a moat. Visit St Martin's Church and
the beautiful baroque main square.

3. BRUCK a.d. LEITHA - SOPRON 39ml(62km)
First
stop today is the village of Parndorf, an Austrian village inhabited
by Craotians. Afterwards cycle along the banks of Lake Neusiedler
to the picturesque town of Rust "a town of the storks and
excellent wine". Cycle to Mörbisch, a small town on
the lake shore and continue to Sopron on the Hungarian border.
It is the only town in Hungary where almost the entire city centre
has survived from the middle ages. Enjoy a good dinner with fine
local wines.

4. SOPRON - SZELESTE 35ml(56km)
Cycle by the Lake enjoying the superb panoramic views, pass quaint
villages and reach Fertod. Visit the magnificent baroque castle
of the Eszterhaza royal family where Hadyn was court musician
for 30 years. Continue to the spa town of Szeleste to relax with
a bathe in the thermal springs.

5. SZELESTE - MAGYARPOLANY 41ml(66km)
A
special treat today is the hill climb to a beautiful Baroque chapel
from which there are magnificent views. In the evening dine in
a village pub on fiery goulash soup and local wine.

6. MAGYARPOLANY - KESZTHELY 39ml(62km)
Start the day with a bus transfer and then cycle through sleepy
Hungarian villages with stork nests on the house roofs and electric
poles. Visit the medieval castle at Sumeg built high on a cliff
and at Heviz enjoy a coffeee and a stroll in the park beside the
largest natural thermal lake in Europe. End the day with a short
ride to your comfortable hotel in Keszthely.

7. Rest day KESZTHELY 19ml(30km)
In the morning the choice is yours. Visit Festetics Castle, explore
the varied shops in Keszthely or take a short cycle ride (10ml)
to swim in the warm waters of the thermal lake at Hévíz.
In the aftenoon join a scenic bike trip to the Balaton highlands
for a wine tasting and dinner, returning by bus to your hotel
in Keszthely.

8. KESZTHELY - BALATONBOGLAR 36ml(58km)
Cycle through little well-cared for lakeside villages, by fields,
fruit gardens and vineyards to Fonyod on the south side of the
lake. Continue throught the romantic region of Csiszta-puszta
perhaps by horse carriage. Stop to enjoy a glass of wine and admire
the scenery around this small thermal area near Buzsák:
continue via Lengyeltóti to the overnight stop at Balatonboglar.

9. BALATONBOGLAR - BUDAPEST 30ml(48km)
Travel along the shore of the Hungarian Sea, Lake Balaton, with
its pretty houses, villas, water sports and beach life. Continue
to Balaton's largest town, Siófok where you can stroll,
swim or just admire the view. Leave Siofok and cycle to Balatonvilagos
for the bus transfer to Budapest. After dinner enjoy a "Budapest
by night" tour.
