ViennaDay 1. Arrive VIENNA

Take time to enjoy the magic of this lively city with its beautiful buildings and picturesque riverside setting.

 

Day 2: VIENNA - PETRONELL/BAD DEUTCH/ALTENBURG 34ml/54km

Cycle on the Danube-Cycle-Path through idyllic meadows, passing the castles of "Orth" and "Eckartsau" (baroque hunting castle of Prince Eugene) to Petronell-Carnuntum, the site of interesting roman excavations.

 

 

 

Day 3. PETRONELL/BAD DEUTCH/ALTENBURG - MOSONMAGYAROVAR/HALASZI 43ml/69 kmBratislava Castle

Still following the Danube-Cycle-Path continue to reach the capital of Slovakia - Bratislava and afterwards enter Hungary. Leave the Danube and cycle through typical small villages using the dam cycle path and country roads.

 

Day 4. MOSONMAGYAROVAR/HALASZI - GYOR 28/32ml(45/51km)

Cycle through the former marsh region of the "Little Alföld". Using side roads pass through delightful villages and arrive at the provincial capital of Györ. This ancient city occupies a strategic position half-way between Vienna and Budapest on the confluence of three rivers the Danube, Raba and Rabca. It has an enchanting centre with beautiful Baroque buildings.

 

Day 5. GYOR - TATA 35ml(56km)

Today the landscape is one of rolling hills on the journey to the picturesque town of Tata, situated on two lakes . Explore its fine Baroque and Renaissance buildings,vist the open air theatre or sit at a cafe enjoying a glass of the local wine.

Esztergom

Day 6. Tata - Esztergom 34ml(55km)

Leaving Tata travel over the densely wooded hills of the "Gerecse" range. Some uphill stretches are rewarded with wonderful descents. Alternatively avoid the steep hills by taking the train from Tata to Komarno in Slovakia and following the banks of the Danube to Esztergom. In Esztergom visit the famous 19th century Basilica, located right on the banks of the Danube River.

 

Day 7. ESZTERGOM - BUDAPEST 28/42ml(45/68km)

From Esztergom head for Visegrad and cross to "Szentendre"-island by ferry. Return by ferry again to the mainland and reach the lively and unusual artist's village of "Szentendre": continue in the afternoon to arrive in Budapest. For a shorter trip take the ship from Szentendre to Budapest.Budapest

 

Day 8. BUDAPEST - VIENNA

Enjoy the day exploring the beautiful city of Budapest. Return to Vienna by public bus departing 1700hrs and arriving Vienna 2030hrs (alternative bus departure at 1200hrs, prebooking required). Why not make the most of your holiday and spend an extra night in Budapest.
