TOURS
IN BELGUIM
BIKE
AND BOAT, FLEMISH CITIES AND DUTCH LANDSCAPE
This
tour features the historic Flemish cities of Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp
and continues into a very beautiful part of the Netherlands. It
begins in Bruges, with its picturesqe town centre probably the most
beautiful of the Flemish historical cities. From there cycle across
the Flemish countryside to Ghent to savour the atmosphere of days
gone by in its ancient town centre. Well worth seeing are The Belfort
with its tower containing a carillon of 44 bells and St. Baafs-Cathedral
with the famous painting, "Adoration of the Lamb of God"
by Jan van Eyck. From Ghent follow the beautiful tidal River Nederschelde
to Antwerp, city of painter Rubens and perhaps visit his birthplace.
After
this head for the Netherlands and arrive at Tholen, once an important
fishing port. Spend the night in Willemstad, a fortified town on
the Haringvliet and continue to visit the historical centre of Dordrecht
and the windmills of Kinderdijk. Finally cycle to Amsterdam along
the winding River Vecht with impressive castles on its banks. Along
the way visit a real Dutch cheese farm where cheese is still produced
by traditional methods. In Amsterdam there is time for a round trip
of the canals or for a visit to the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh-museum.
