Edward Graham Macfarlane   “DEAR JOHN BIRT...” (A poet’s plea to the DG of the BBC.)   May I commend the‘super-editor’, Who decided to include, The views of Tony Benn, Which have NOT been understood?   Tony Blair's been ‘out of order’ To REJECT Tony Benn, And so to fail to include him, In his social morals regimen.   Benn’s statesmanship is not PERFECT, But it is better far, Than the wimpish USA adulation, Of the LIB DEM legal star. (Ming Campbell)   These were the two main speakers, In Channel ONE of Friday past Which, I thought, quite SUPERIOR, To the usual BBC broadcast.   Benn was JUSTIFIED in SIGNALLING, 'Strikes' were an "ACT OF WAR", By single 'sovereign nations', Which USA and UK LEADERS think they are.   A 'multi-nation' planet Is A REALLY MASSIVE WRONG And GLOBAL INTEGRATION, Must be our newest song,   There are ENEMIES of global unity, In the NEW LABOUR GOVERNMENT today, Like Robin Cook and Peter Shore, Who DISAPPROVE what Benn will say.   But Benn's a better DEMOCRAT, Than they will ever be, For he's an anti-LORDSHIPS man, And cares for HUMANITY.   These verses are a SERIOUS PLEA, To YOU to go on using BENN. Give him a SPOT like KILROY, (And, to `warring nations') We will ONE DAY SAY --- AMEN!
