June 14, 1999 Edward Graham Macfarlane   “No ordinary Sunday paper”!  

At last I see positive moves to live up to the original proposed agenda of THE SUNDAY HERALD. The printing of e-mail addresses is PROOF that you are leading the people in Scotland and the UK and the EU and the WORLD to the websites and persons who take the trouble to read and evaluate your journalism.
However, in my opinion, you should have NO RIGHT to “edit” (sic) what I write since my signature should mean that it is MY THINKING that the readers are seeing and not even the editors of papers which feature the silly BRITISH ESTABLISHMENT LOGO at their mastheads (Crown over all and lion rampant and the UNICORN! etc.) should have the “right to edit”!
But writers like me do not need journalists like Mr Geoff Lynn to tell us what are the most important subjects for comment.
For example, I think that journalism which is glasnostly committed to thinking our way towards a global democratic polity: to replace the  (to MY mind) utterly unacceptable multi-sovereignty social mess in the world at the moment: is the most important publication agenda we can have.
This basic purpose is more important than anything “Scottish”, ”Anglican”, ”Catholic”,  “American”, “Russian”, “Islamic”, “Chinese” or otherwise part-global whatsoever!
All these social cults are really the largest and most dangerous forms of sectarianism we have to deal with and this is why I scorn such letters as you publish, (13-06-99) from Andrew Lockhart Walker who sits on the most foolish fence for Scotland.
His initial statement, “I take no side in the problem of sectarianism raised in your leader, but I cannot see how the abolition of Catholic schools can provide a solution to it.” is a typical outright denial of “I take no side...” (Between pro-Catholic Schools and Democratic Schools,)
I am opposed to all forms of sectarian schools, and consequently end up wishing to see every school in the world being officially and lawfully committed to a global democratic purpose of steering the minds of all children to global consciousness and acceptance of world integrated patriotism instead of USA selfishness or UK political sovereignty by Anglican-led British patriots.
Mr Walker should understand that clubs like the IRA and the UVF are products of Catholic and Protestant warlording respectively and if we want to stop the forming of such sectarian killing bodies we must IMMEDIATELY vow to desegregate all schools.
Thus ALL politicians must THINK AGAIN about such nonsenses as vowing loyalty to any monarch -- for example -- or working for Scottish or UK or EU or Nato etc.PART-world organisations.
Good Scots and Brits or Euros or Americans should all become HUMAN beings ... and willing to support global democratic nationhood!
