April 23, 1999 Edward Graham Macfarlane   To “Letters on Scotland’s Election.” The Glasgow Herald.   My thinking about the Scottish Parliament I wish to see being brought into reality is probably unique among letter-writers but I think it deserves a place in THE HERALD at this unique time in history.
As a Humanist, Anti-theist and believer in the biological evolution theory of our existence in the world my letters are often suppressed by traditional-minded editors who are probably unaware that theistic traditions are all out-of-date in my view,
So when they come to decide whether my letter is fit for publication they probably categorise me as a latter-day heretic or extremist not worth listening to.
But I am writing to you because in the past you have published an anti-GOD letter which such editors as the Aberdeen  P&J will always and most assuredly OMIT as UNPUBLISHABLE! This is why I place THE HERALD on a superior Journalistic plane to that on which I place the PRESS & JOURNAL.
Many people may be surprised to learn that although Alex Salmond’s party is “in free fall” my deeply considered political decision is to call for :--
“Vote SNP! to make Alex Salmond our FIRST SCOTTISH PREMIER.”
In MY view Mr Salmond has PROVED HIMSELF to be a most important political INNOVATOR in his conduct as a party leader. He is head and shoulders above Donald Dewar, and all other members of the NEW LABOUR GOVERNMENT, insofar as he has ACTED to include Roseanne Cunningham, known to be an ATHEIST in his DEMOCRATIC TEAM.
This is UNPRECEDENTED in British Democracy and it is redolent of a GLOBAL DEMOCRATIC agenda for HUMANITY.
So “RABBLE ROUSE” TO THE LIMIT for the election of this person to the HIGHEST POSITION IN SCOTLAND”S NEW PARLIAMENT.
Do not worry about his foolish claim to make Scotland a sovereign nation. That will NEVER happen except due to the possible ignition of WORLD WAR THREE by electing NEW LABOUR politicians who will perpetrate -- EAST versus WEST (NATO) madness.in our future history.
Mr Salmond is the ONLY PARTY LEADER who will get rid of the MYOPIC BRITISH prayers etc which are planned and will be installed in Scotland by NEW LABOUR or NEW BRITISH CAPITALISTS! or British Lib Dems or Greens etc. instead of a democratic Scotland within a Democratic World Society.
VOTE SALMOND FOR OUR BEST CHANCE OF A Civilizing Freedom-based Scotland and Planet.
