Sci. Agriculture. Poultry FAQ's

These pages are being made up from the wealth of practical and technical knowledge that can be found on the newsgroup.  None of the topics are finished - they probably never will be - we always have something to learn. If there is something you wnat to know that is not here - get on the group and ask - they are a really friendly group and no question is too simple - and hopefully if it is complicated someone will be able to help find the answer. The group is made up from all walks of poultry keeping from 2 birds in the city to commercial egg and meat producers - and from all over the world.

USA -   Khaki Cambells or Welsh Harlequins are my favorites, but of course it depends on
what purpose you want them for. The above are extraordinary egg producers with
additional lighting and consentrated feeds, but there are a wonderous variety of
duel purpose birds too, such as the Swedish, Applyards,Aylesbury, and the good
old standby Pekins.
I favor a good combination of excellent egg producers,pretty plumage,and I am
raisning the Muskovies for brooders and meat producers. The Swedish will allow
for meat, brooding and eggs as well

Australia - think the runners might find it a bit WARM in kal! what about Khaki Campbells and Rouens ... they seem to handle the heavier climate better. Kalgoorlie is renowned for the heat ..
it's ALWAYS hot, hot hot! Dry and dusty .... gold country ... hard going for people let alone some breeds of animals. A judge gave me the opinion that Khakis and Rouens are hardier in our extreme climate.
