A pen and ink portrait by Rory, P7

Just before Christmas the Infant classes put on a concert for parents and friends

Kinnoull School Association ( our PTA ) raised a record £2200 at their Annual Autumn Fair.

It took a lot of hard work by a lot of people. But it was also great fun.

The children paid to have their faces painted.

Someone "volunteered" Mr Carmichael to have his head painted to raise funds.

Primary 7 painted the mural of "Bugsy". Primary 2 pupils painted the bears.

This is a class picture of Primary 1 - drawn by themselves.

One of the topics studied by P7 each year is "World War II.

The class tried to find out what it was like for children of their age during the war. They discovered that many children were sent away from their homes to safe places in other towns and villages and that some of these young evacuees had spent some of the war years in homes in Perth and had attended this school.

To help get a better idea of what it was really like for the evacuees the class did a role play. The children all made gas mask boxes and identity labels and pretended that they had just arrived in Perth and some of our mums came to school and pretended that they were parents choosing evacuees to live in their homes.

Here's a poem by Katy in P7 about an evacuee :

When I stood there waiting to be evacuated,

I felt left out and scared,

I was pushed and twirled,

poked and whirled,

I wanted to go back home.

Separated from friends and family,

Being chosen last I wanted the war to finish fast.

Staying in a home I didn't know,

Staying with people I don't know,

Just wanting to go back to Glasgow.

Being angry when they pushed me aside,

Feeling lonely with nowhere to hide,

Being quiet, being frightened to speak,

Wishing to go home every single week.

A week before the Christmas holiday and P5 are really excited !

P4 learn about the Romans and Celts in Scotland and find that Perth Museum and Art Gallery has some very interesting Roman artefacts. Here's an account of their visit to the museum written by Jack.

On 29th of Sept. P4 went to the Perth Museum for a Roman day. Our first topic is about Romans and Celts. First we looked at the slides. They were very interesting. After that we had our snacks. Then we looked at a table of artefacts. On the table were all sorts of Roman things. There were different kinds of Roman money. There was a glass bead. It looked very nice. The Roman pottery was called Samian. There was this small version of an amphora. An amphora is a very big jug that you lean against the ground and still hold onto it. Thats how you pour the juice out of it. And there was a roof tile. Then we had lunch. After that we went to the North Inch Then we had a quiz and the potters and pupils won ! Then we went back to school.
