About the Department

At the moment there is only one Computing Lab. However, the plans for the development of the school include provision for a second lab. This much needed room will allow us to provide more appropriate computer education.

Currently we use Acorn computers for our courses, although we do have a couple of PCs in the Department. Unfortunately, we are not yet networked and this means that a lot of time is spent copying and moving files between floppies. It is expected that the school refurbishment will lead to networking not just the Computing Department but also other parts of the school.

One big decision that will have to be made involves the choice of machine to populate the second lab - Acorn or Mac or PC. There are worries about cost of software if we change platforms. If anyone has any experience of making such a change I would be grateful to hear how it went. This is preferable to making an expensive mistake!

Forth Valley Internet Project

Forth Valley's Schools Internet Project aims to develop the knowledge and skills of young people in utilising the latest forms of telecommunications and information technology.

All secondary schools in the Forth Valley area are now linked to the Internet. All schools are having space allocated on a Forth Valley Enterprise server to enable them to add their own pages to the Web.

Clearly, these pages are at a very early stage of construction, with many ideas still being discussed. However, we would particularly welcome any comments, suggestions or encouragement from other schools.
