Computing Studies

This department has three teachers. They are Mrs Fox-Davies, Mr Dawson and MIss Giuliani.

We have 12 PC's in one room and 14 Archimedes in the other. We hope that we will get more PC's, especially multi-media PC's.

Our Internet access is in the library, but that gets very busy, so it will be good if we get one in the Computing Rooms. Ideally we would like to have an ISDN line.

Computing Studies is fun. We are taught about Computer Systems and the Social Implications of the use of computers, Commercial Data Processing and Automated Systems. We also learn to use graphics, word process, desk top publish, use and build a database, create spreadsheets, slide shows, and web pages.

We learn to use computers from first year. In third year we can choose Computing Studies as one of our Standard Grades and we can choose it as a Higher in fifth or sixth year. If we don't want to take a Higher, we can try to get Level 1 and Level 2 Information Technology Module Clusters. These are more practical than theory. By the time we leave school we will have become highly "computer literate"!!!
