28 Miles 2100ft Category CL

Starts at 11:00:00

From Braemar to Aviemore

This is a race along one of Scotland's most famous long walks. The old accepted route is from the police station in Braemar to the police station in Aviemore. I did it last year in the superbly symetrical time of 5:05:05. The valleys in the Cairngorms are quite a bit bigger than I am used to so although you just nip up a couple of valleys you find that you are 18 miles in and can see the last ten to Aviemore stretched out before you in a green spread of the surviving Caledonian forrest. The forest is hard work with a whole load of roots and hard ground sorting the men from the boys. (I was the latter). Don't you also think that after 27.5 miles people would be content to come 50th rather than battle for 49th? The record is held by Rab Brown the trotters first pilot. Rab apparently ran it at 170 beats a minute.

Men's Record is 3:11:11 set by R Brown in 1994.

Women's Record is 03:45:10 set by H. Diamantides in 1992
