I did this for the first time in 1998. It is a fine out and back up one pleasantly wooded hill. The route to the bottom of the hill is a model of directness going through the carpark a river and then over a road.
The 4 by 200 meters sprint is also good fun as a warm down. It reminded me of the fairly hands and elbows style you expect at rugby.

 Men's Record is 0:27:50 set by J Brooks in 1996.

 Women's Record is 00:36:06 set by T Calder in 1989
