This race is an early season monster. It starts and finishes with a couple of miles of forestry track. This is followed by some really lovely real highland hills and scenery which includes some huge climbs.

A friend originally from Lancashire tells me that the first time he had to use crampons for real was on Stuc A'Chroin in the winter. Hopefully in late April this wouldn't be necessary.

The course is very well marked so it would only be in the worst of conditions or worst of luck that you would need your navigational skills.

The finish is down the track that you started on and you get all sorts of wobbly joggly running with some people able to maintain as much as 8 minute miling. Remember to keep a wee bit back for the finish!

The race is generally followed by festivities making it a great day out.

 Men's Record is 1:59:00 set by I Holmes in 1997.

 Women's Record is 02:23:56 set by T Calder HBT in 1991

  The Organisers says - : Lot of flagging with 3 dozen marshals on the hill. But you must have nav skills. Organiser can supply a wee map.,

Safety Requirements include

• You must understand the FRA and / or SAF Safety Rules
• Full body cover must be worn or carried. (This may not be required on the day if it is hot and dry)
• Please bring a sensible map. Generally a 1:50000 OS is ideal. There is no stipulation that you can use it
• Bring a half decent compass
• Bring a Whistle. Repeated blasts on a whistle is the signal that you need help. They only weigh an ounce or two
• Emergency Food to be carried. I think that the rule is a two ounce bar of choclate or equivalent
