Interesting.. The mens record is held by the much missed editor of Booze and Trouble. The alternative hill running magazine. I still have one of the T shirts. Its just that it has shrunk quite a bit.
The race is organised by Don from Graham Tiso's shop. Don must be mentioned in any review of Scottish hill running for his long and trouble free support of Scottish Hill running. They have published the long familiar Snail Mail calendar.
The Seven Hills was originally concieved as a pro devolutionist event. It goes round, suprisingly, seven hills in Edinburgh. It is a unique sport of urban hill running.
There are a perfect routes as there are perfect marriages. You could find a marriage with only bliss, happiness and perpetual smiles sooner than you would find a perfect route. The Merchants of Edinburgh Golfers are now out of bounds so how can there be a perfect route?
The late Pete wouldn't let anyone else follow him through the private gardens on Calton hill to which only he had access. But he did have to carry a very big key to open the gate all the way round the course.
Do this at least twice! I have and I still think that the SAS style route straight through Craiglockart pond and over the wall and through the thicket is best. But then the guys who cut across the main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line to get to Meggetland probably thought that trains at sixty miles an hour were no real risk. (The police thought otherwise)
Yep this is a definite MUST DO!
Men's Record is 1:32:40 set by M Lindsay in 1987.
Women's Record is 01:48:24 set by P Rother in 1987
