26th Eildon 2 Hill Race
Saturday, Jun 24 2000
4.5 Miles 1500ft Category AS
Starts at 15:00:00
From Greenyards, Melrose, Scottish Borders.
Absolute favourite. I can drive there in about an hour and the race doesn't require superhuman fittness. The grasshoppers are out and noisy, it's hot and it smells like summer, you finish at the town fair that would remind you of Hardy & Wessex. Then change in the Greenyards, home of one of the leading Rugby clubs in Scotland. The medal cabinet is full of jerseys and other memorabilia brought back by some of the club's favourite sons from internationals the world over. The whole thing is just great!
There is also usually a fair ground running too so that you can make your children sick on the waltzers.
The hills themselves are crackers too, with steep sharp climbs and descents with touches of scree to add some excitement. The long descent of the second hill is really free running. If you live in England do this race on your way north for a holiday!
Men's Record is 0:25:38 set by K Stuart in 1984.
Women's Record is 00:30:28 set by T Calder in 1990
