A Warm Welcome Awaits all guests at A Eilean A Cheo

Gordon & Jan Cuthbertson’s home ‘A Eilean A Cheo’.

Here a warm welcome awaits those keen to fish the famous waters of the River Spey.  A Eilean A Cheo (Gaelic for “Island in the Mist”) is located just outside the village of Cromdale, some four miles from Grantown-on-Spey.

It is among many places to stay in the area, but is the only one that we know of that caters specifically to the travelling fly fisher.  Their main aim is to gather people together who are focused on the same goal – game fishing on the River Spey.

The service and facilities offered here are intended to enhance the experience of visiting fly fishers with their flexibility and customisation.  A drying room, rod racks, tackle locker, packed lunches and arrangements for meal times to suit guests all provide for a relaxed and comfortable stay.

Gordon is always happy to impart his knowledge of the River and arrangements can be made for night fishing, fishing other rivers and Spey casting lessons.

Residents at A Eilean A Cheo have access to 4 miles of double bank fishing on prime waters of the River Spey.  In addition, there is access to another one and a half miles for three days a week on the Upper Castle Grant beat only for guests holding a weekly ticket.

A Eilean A Cheo holds up to six guests with shared bathroom facilities.  The rooms are doubles, some with one full-sized bed, others with twin beds, all comfortably furnished.  A full cooked breakfast, packed lunches and three course evening meals are provided.

There are no Coffee/Tea making facilities within the bedrooms but Coffee and Tea and home baking can be provided on request at all reasonable times.  All of the food is home-cooked and freshly prepared, mostly from local produce such as Lamb, Beef, Venison and seasonal vegetables.

A breakfast of your choice and a three course dinner in the evenings are served in the dining room followed by Coffee in the lounge.
