Local Attractions
Strathspey is truly a holiday
destination, with many attractions for the visitor to enjoy. A Eilean A Cheo is situated at the very
start of the famous Whisky Trail, from here you can visit any number of
distilleries in the area, all famous for their own particular brand. We particularly recommend a visit to the
Glenfiddich Distillery, approximately half an hour away by car from the
house. This is the last Distillery to
offer a free guided tour of the distillery, still family owned and operated and
with its own bottling plant, the only distillery to bottle its own Whisky at
source.
On the way to Glenfiddich is the
Speyside Cooperage, which also has an excellent visitor centre and a
viewing gallery of the workshop where you can watch the barrels being built or
repaired.
The Speyside Way is a
long distance walk way that has recently been completed and is one of four long
distance routes in Scotland. Although
first opened in 1981, it ran from Spey Bay as far as Ballindalloch, the route
from Ballindalloch to Aviemore was completed in early 2000 and there are two
additional spurs to Dufftown and Tomintoul.
Disused Railways, old military roads, pathways and forests tracks take
walkers through some of the most stunning scenery in the area. Arrangements can be made to take guests to a
drop off point, which would allow them to follow the walk back to the house,
which is situated, on the Speyside Way.
A route map can also be provided.
In addition to the Speyside Way
there are plenty of walks available for all abilities, far too numerous to
mention here, but more details can be provided on request.
There are plenty of Cycle paths
too and cycle hire is readily available.
At the Highland Wildlife Park
in Kincraig there is an amazing variety of wildlife found in present day
Scotland. Then step back in time. Meet the creatures that roamed the earth
hundreds, even thousands of years ago – the animals of your ancestors. Get closer than you ever thought possible as
past meets present in the spectacular setting of the Highland Wildlife Park.
The Landmark Heritage Centre
in Carrbridge acts as an open air museum showing the history and workings of
the Caledonian Forest, with Clydesdale Horse demonstrations, Forest Skills
Area, Nature Trail and 70ft lookout tower, adventure playground for children
and much more.
