Golfing

Scotland is the birth place of Golf and the whole of the country is dotted with fine courses.  There are several courses nearby to A Eilean A Cheo, some of championship quality.  Speyside itself boasts at least two dozen courses, and as I write a further course is being built at Ballindalloch, a short ride from Cromdale.

Boat of Garten: 18 holes, 5720 yards.  Set in idyllic surroundings of birch woodlands by the Spey.  A testing, but rewarding course, it has absolutely stunning views of the Cairngorm Mountains.

Carrbridge: 9 and 18 holes, 5300 yards.  Not to be taken too seriously, this is an ideal place for the light-hearted round in attractive surroundings.

Grantown-on-Spey: 18 holes, 5745 yards.  Founded more than 100 years ago, this course has something to offer players of every standard.  A fairly demanding course, in a typical woodland setting with magnificent views of the Hills of Cromdale and Cairngorm mountain range.

Inverness: 18 holes, 5451 yards.  By the side of the Caledonian Canal, in a parkland setting, gold here is not too demanding.  This municipal course offers an enjoyable day.

Kingussie: 18 holes, 5555 yards.  This course was designed by Harry Vardon, and opened in the 1890’s.  It is enchanted golfers ever since with its stunning views of the Spey Valley.  The highest green is at 1000 feet.

Newtonmore: 18 holes, 5890 yards.  On the old flood plain of the River Spey, this parkland course offers a combination of splendid golf amidst splendid scenery.

Rothes: 9 holes, 2526 yards.  This attractive little course at Blackhill was created in 1990 on local upland pasture.  Although play here is not too demanding, there is much to satisfy the discerning golfer.  The views of the Strathspey are simply glorious.

Abernethy: 9 holes, 2484 yards.  A little downstream from Boat of Garten, this is en enjoyable yet challenging course near the river and by the great pine woods of Abernethy.

Of the local courses, Grantown is nearest at about 4 miles away, and Inverness the furthest away of those mentioned, approximately 35 miles.  The cost of golfing is determined by the individual courses, we will be pleased to make enquiries on your behalf if more information is required.
