CHRIS HAMILTON'S
HOME PAGE
- I am a collector of old
gramophones, phonographs, cylinders, 78rpm records, 45rpm records
and LPs. My taste in music ranges from classical through to jazz.
I have a particular interest in speech and documentary 78rpm
records. I am a member of The
City of London Phonograph and Gramophone Society
and of
Dundee
Recorded Music Society.
- I give
talks on a wide
variety of musical subjects. I live in Scotland, hence my choice
of an illustration of "The Bob", an old Scottish 78rpm record
dating from 1913.
- I am also a Christian and I
am an elder in my
local
church.
I have written articles for
Hillandale News, the journal of the City of London Phonograph
and Gramophone Society. One such article was on the "Hines"
gramophone. In another
article I wrote the history of Great
Scott Records
(to my knowledge the only
78rpm record company that did everything from recording to production
"in house"). One of my special interests is in documentary and speech
78s. A few years back I purchased a Hindenburg
record in a private
deal. Previously to that I picked up an interesting set of two 10"
78s for a bargain price at a record fair. These turned out to be a
speech in English by the Japanese chemist Professor
Joji Sakurai.
