A GALLERY OF SCOTTISH LONG PLAYING RECORDS

Bonspiel Records were a Scottish-based record company. At this moment I have been unable find out where in Scotland they were based or what repertoire their catalogue contained. This record was pressed in Scotland. There were few pressing plants north of the Border.

Craighall Studios were the successor company to Geo.Jeffrey Ltd., the owners oif the Waverley label, who had sold out to EMI in the middle 1960s. Craighall specialised in making recordings for other organisations, in this case the Kinghorn Singers who come from Kinghorn in Fife. They are an amateur organisation who raise money themselves to promote their activities. They have appeared on Radio Scotland, Radio 3 and have performed at the Edinburgh and Pitlochry Festivals.

Grange Records were based in Glasgow. One of their main classical artists were Cantilena, an early music group, directed by Adrian Shepherd. Thie record illustrated dates from 1975.

Lismor Recordings are about 30 years old. They are Glasgow based and their catalogue consists mainly of recordings of Scottish material. One of their most popular artists is Kenneth McKellar. The Scottish National Orchestra under Alexander Gibson are also in their current catalogue. The company is still very active and have a good sized CD catalogue.

Rae, MacIntosh & Co. Ltd. were an Edinburgh based dealer in sheet music and gramophone records. They first issued their own records in the days of 78rpm records. This 10" LP contained recordings from the 1958 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. They are still in business today, but no longer sell records.

Scotdisc LPs were produced by Scotdisc BGS Productions Ltd. of Kilsyth. This particular record dates from 1984. When the company was formed and whether it is still on the go I do not know.

Scottish Records were based at 52 Bon Accord Street, Aberdeen, Scotland. The LPs illustrated date from the middle 1960s.

Thule Records were based in Shetland. They date from the 1960s. The company concentrated on music performed by local artists. I'm not sure whether they are still in business.

Waverley Records were owned by Geo. Jeffrey Ltd. of 23 Earl Grey Street, Edinburgh. They had no connection whatsoever with the Waverley 78rpm record owned by A. H. Wilkinson & Co. Ltd. of Glasgow. Geo. Jeffrey Ltd. sold the Waverley label to EMI Records Ltd. in the middle to late 1960s. The Scottish National Orchestra under their conductor Alexander Gibson had a contract to make recordings with Waverley. Several recordings were issued.
