Alan has wide experience of broadcasting in both specialist engineering and in operations. He was with the BBC for twenty years and worked in radio and television transmitter design and installation, communications, studio design and operation,high definition television and management. He has managed several major broadcasting events providing facilities and services for many domestic and foreign broadcasters. |
Training is a big part of Alan's work. He has run many training courses in the UK and, on behalf of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, in the West Indies, South America, east west and southern Africa. He is a Director of WWBTI.INFO a developing international website which provides a searchable database of Trainers, Training Courses and Support Services and Facilities. Electronic and Digital cinema and High Definition Television are major interests Over the years, Alan has presented demonstrations to various groups and public audiences in order to raise awareness of the technology and opportunities. He is a Director of the digital cinema company Docspace Ltd, the UK partner of Cinemanet Europe , with responsibilities for the technical operation from programme acquisition to projection. |
Alan provides a Consultancy Service on many aspects of Broadcast Engineering including System Security and Disaster Recover. He is an occasional consultant for the Thomson Foundation and on their behalf he was adviser to Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service during the coverage of that country's General and Presidential elections. Special projects and events have regularly been managed by Alan and he can provide a full service for all forms of radio, television or corporate projects. |

Alan B Downie holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland, and is a Chartered Member of the UK Institution of Electrical Engineers, having served on one of their specialist committees.
