Welcome... ...to the Monifieth High School website. My name is James Collins and I have been Headteacher of the school for a little over four years now. My staff, pupils and I work in the burgh of Monifieth in Angus, one of the most beautiful and varied counties of Scotland. Proud of their heritage but also forward-looking in modern society, the people of Angus inhabit a relatively small geographical area which encompasses miles of wonderful coastline, high mountains and some of the richest and most fertile agricultural land in the country.

Monifieth High School enjoys good relationships with its community and its educational neighbours, but we also look beyond the boundaries of Angus and Scotland to make friends. We share with the town of Monifieth strong links with Soyaux in the Charente region of France, and we anticipate a new contact with Zwickau in Germany, close to the Polish and Czech borders.

Why are you visiting us on the Net? You may simply be browsing or are curious, or are researching some educational facts and figures. Alternatively you may be actively seeking a place for a youngster, in which case please see this website as only one source of information on our school. It is no substitute for the real Monifieth which you are very welcome to visit in person. You may also want to contact us for a copy of our School Handbook and other brochures.

We strive through our work in the classroom and in the wider community to meet our aims which are

  • To ensure that each pupil is known and valued as a person
  • To help pupils achieve the highest possible standards in classwork and other activities, including national examinations
  • To develop the full potential of every pupil by offering as wide a range of courses as possible which cater for all levels of ability and allow the range of choice needed to accommodate individual interests and aptitudes
  • To maintain an atmosphere which promotes good working relationships from which pupils can derive positive attitudes and sound values based on the principles of healthy competition, tolerance and consideration of others
  • To assist pupils to achieve their career ambitions by providing advice on appropriate choice of subjects, courses of study and career routes
  • To help pupils to develop personally and socially and to acquire the self-discipline and sense of responsibility they need to cope with the rigours of adulthood
  • To promote good relationships between home, school and community and to develop these to our mutual benefit

I am proud that the initiative for creating this website has been taken by a senior pupil from session 1998-99, Alan Burness. I am grateful to Alan for expending the time and effort.
